چکیده

4. Series of lectures on statistical turbulence written for amateurs but not experts. Elementary aspects and problems of turbulence in two and three dimensional Navier-Stokes equation are introduced. A few properties of scalar turbulence and transport phenomena in turbulent flows are described. Kraichnan’s model of passive advection is discussed a bit more precisely. Part 1: Approaching turbulent flows. Navier-Stokes equation. Cascades and Kolmogorov theory. Modeling statistical turbulence. Correlation functions and scaling. Part 2: Deeper in turbulent flows. Turbulence in two dimensions. Dissipation and dissipative anomalies. Fokker-Planck equations. Multifractal models. Part 3: Scalar turbulence. Transport and Lagrangian trajectories. Kraichnan’s passive scalar model. Anomalous scalings and universality. Part 4: Lagrangian trajectories. Richardson’s law. Lagrangian flows in Kraichnan’s model. Slow modes. Breakdown of Lagrangian flows. Batchelor limit. Generalized Lagrangian flows and trajectory bundles. Part 5: Burgers turbulence. Shocks. Bifractality. Member of the CNRS; [email protected] Laboratoire de la Direction des Sciences de la Matière du Commisariat à l’Energie Atomique. Series of lectures presented at Sète and Saclay during the summer 2000.

Comparison of different turbulence models in a high pressure fuel jet

In this study, modeling of a fuel jet which has been injected by high pressure into a low-pressure tank are investigated. Due to the initial conditions and the geometry of this case and similar cases (like CNG injectors in internal combustion engines (ICE)), the barrel shocks and Mach disk are observed. Hence a turbulence and transient flow will be expected with lots of shocks and waves. Accord...

Performance of SST k-ω Turbulence Model for Computation of Viscous Drag of Axisymmetric Underwater Bodies

This paper presents 2-D finite volume method for computation of viscous drag based on Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations. Computations are performed on bare submarine hull DREA and six axisymmetric bodies of revolution with a number of length-diameter (L/D) ratios ranging from 4 to 10. Both structured and unstructured grids are used to discretize the domain around the bodies. Diff...

Internal combustion engines in cylinder flow simulation improvement using nonlinear k-ε turbulence models

The purpose of this paper is to studying nonlinear k-ε turbulence models and its advantages in internal combustion engines, since the standard k-ε model is incapable of representing the anisotropy of turbulence intensities and fails to express the Reynolds stresses adequately in rotating flows. Therefore, this model is not only incapable of expressing the anisotropy of turbulence in an engine c...

The effect of turbulence model on predicting the development and progression of coronary artery atherosclerosis

A severe case of stenosis in coronary arteries results in turbulence in the blood flow which may lead to the formation or progression of atherosclerosis. This study investigated the turbulent blood flow in a coronary artery with rigid walls, as well as 80% single and double stenoses on blood flow. A finite element-based software package, ADINA 8.8, was employed to model the blood flow. The hemo...

Estimate the Performance of Catalytic Converter Using Turbulence Induce Devices

In this manuscript, the experimental setup was designed and fabricated for optimizing the parameters of a catalytic converter of INDICA V2 exhaust system. Three turbulence intensify devices, namely Swirl Venturi, Swirl Blades and Swirl Contour, were close-fitted before the catalytic converter. The heating element is embedded in its body and thermocouples are used for knowing the performance at ...
